Chest
While chiropractic methods are generally used to treat musculoskeletal disorders, there is evidence to suggest they can be just as effective in healing non-musculoskeletal issues.
Chiropractors can treat other areas of the body not traditionally considered as ‘chiropractic territory’. One of these areas is the chest and ribs. A chiropractor will assess the movement of the ribs, and how a lack of flexibility here may lead to chest pain. They will reduce pain and spasms, while increasing the movement of the affected area, and therefore help to combat acute or chronic chest and rib pain.
Causes of Chest Pain
One of the primary causes of chest pain is a subluxated, or misaligned, rib. It can result in stabbing pains when inhaling, or coughing attacks. As well as this, the ribs are in place to protect the major organs of the body, and therefore a misaligned rib needs to be considered a matter of urgency.
A subluxated rib can easily be treated by chiropractors, who use adjustment and realignment techniques in this instance. Other conditions that can lead to chest pain, such as angina and asthma, can also be treated using chiropractic principles.
Chest pain can often be a worrying condition, and if the pain is acute and severe, it is essential that you seek medical attention. However, if the problem is a persistent, nagging concern rather than a serious matter, then you may find that chiropractic treatment is for you.
